THERMODYNAMICS (FIRE)
Installation, film, performance and accompanying poetic text, 5-30 minutes duration.
Performance engaging members of the general public into an enquiry on their personal, mediated relationship with the natural world, predominately regarding fire.
Conversations are instigated by myself, asking the participant to choose a card from an offered selection. Cards have printed extracts from literature detailing visual, transformative, intimate and spontaneous qualities of fire, darkness and light.
Documentation shows two iterations of the performance, firstly a one-to-one performance in a darkened room with two hay bales across six days (2018), the second a performance for multiple participants sitting on trees stumps (2019).
Audio archive gathered from first iteration speaking to approximately 70 participants.
Installation: digital film of fire from my mother’s hearth, looped; cube monitor; checked shirt; 2 x hay bales/ 5 x cut logs arranged for seating.
From the series Odes (PART OF A LARGER QUEST), 2019.
