I’m a member of Deluxe Critical Forum, a collective of fourteen artist-filmmakers nurturing collaborative practice through mutual support. Deluxe started in July 2023, as a natural evolution from LUXs 22/23 year-long Critical Forum programme for Artist filmmakers.
Since “graduating” from LUX in July 2023 we renamed ourselves Deluxe, having naturally distilled from a group of twenty-two to fourteen, with members ranging in age from 25-72, and nationalities including UK, Japan, Kazakhstan and Poland. Drawing on our collective experience and expertise—from grassroots DIY initiatives to teaching at renowned institutions — we pioneer film as interdisciplinary and community driven.
Valuing accessibility in the arts, we co-curate free and affordable public screenings and exhibitions, creating new works and publications. We’ve built a vibrant cross-disciplinary community since 2022, motivated by our socially and ecologically engaged practices. Our myriad backgrounds support film as both digital and analogue, progressive and interdisciplinary, embracing expanded film in relationship with performance, sculpture, music, photography, sound, literature and painting.
We meet monthly, supporting one another in making films, artworks, showing in exhibitions, making publications, co-curating events and public screenings and take turns to lead themed presentations, crits, workshops and discussions, coming together to co-curate the popular ‘Sunscreen’ film and performance event at LUX for Summer Solstice 2023 and Earthwork (2024).
